Cards on the Table

Tonight we talked

For the first time in a long while,

Putting all our cards on the table,

Exposing vulnerabilities we’ve been hiding,

Acknowledging emotions buried

In the every day of living.

Our years together have helped us

Endure incredible journeys

That could have ended everything

On at least three occasions.

We are so good at dodging

These bullets as we focus on

All the good things we are blessed by.

Yet we owe it to ourselves to

Own the pain

Conquer the fear

Feel the anger

To help us heal

Make us grow

Free us from the past

So we can fully embrace all our todays

That God has in store for us.
